Sectional Globes by Geografia

Japanese company Geografia, a division of the 90-year-old Marumo Printing Co., produces these handsome, sectional paper globes, designed by Japanese firm Drill, with architect Hajime Narukawa.

Packaged in a flat envelope, the globe’s frame and finishing sections require a very efficient assembly. Because of its shape, the globe sits naturally at 23.4 degrees, the same angle of Earth’s axis.

The collection includes several variations of the paper globe, from a glow-in-the-dark version (shown), that replicates the earth’s city lights at night, to globes left blank for filling in with coloured pencils, among other ingenious designs.

Starting at around $50; The Occasional Traveler carries a limited selection of Geografia globes online, and you can find a list of retailers (international) at Geografia.
